This special mask is to commemorate the soon-to-be-demolished iconic Sentosa Merlion. The Merlion is a mythical creature with a lion’s head and fish tail, symbolising Singapore as the Lion City and our origins as a fishing village. The words incribed “Marilah kita bersatu” is taken from our national anthem, sung in the native Melayu language and means “come, let us unite”. It is to show the uniqueness of Singapore, a country made up of many different races of people uniting as one.
